The degree program is designed for students wishing to obtain a strong and highly regarded Science degree coupled with specific emphasis on cross-cultural skills, knowledge and understanding. Your study will provide you with the essential skill set for understanding and working in a rapidly changing global environment. The Bachelor of Science (International) provides a wide range of career opportunities in global scientific organisations and companies, international government and non-government agencies and scientific research.

How to Structure Your Degree

The Bachelor of Science (International) at UNSW is made up of 32 courses taken over four years when studying full-time. This includes the following components:

  • Science major
  • Language minor
  • Global Directed electives
  • Science electives
  • Free electives

You will also complete an overseas exchange at one of our exchange partner universities, where you will take courses that count towards any of the above degree components.

Upon graduation and subject to your academic performance, you'll have the opportunity to apply for an additional honours year of study.

Choosing Your Courses

There are no core courses for this degree, but every science major and language minor have compulsory courses you’ll need to do.

  • Select your major from the list of available majors in the UNSW Handbook.
  • Language minors need to be chosen early – ideally start this from your first term.
  • Use the Undergraduate Degree Templates to help you map out your degree

TIP: When using the Handbook or the Degree Templates, always select the year you commenced studying Science at UNSW, and follow those rules throughout your degree.

Following Degree Requirements

All rules are outlined in the Handbook, and we encourage you to use this in conjunction with the Degree Templates to ensure you are selecting courses that count towards your degree. If you’re approaching the end of your studies, you can request a progression check, and our staff will provide an outline of your remaining degree requirements.

Not Sure About Your Major?

Our flexible Science (International) degree program allows you to declare or change your major in Stage 2 of study, so you can sample several different courses before making a decision.
