"I was appointed the Academic Disability Advisor (ADA) for the Faculty of Science in late 2018, and the role in this short period to date has seen me assisting a number of academic colleagues across schools within the faculty. This has ranged from providing simple advice on educational adjustments and provisions to more complex issues involving the welfare of students. My role has been primarily to act as a conduit between staff and the student’s Disability Advisor, and to date we’ve been able to resolve all issues in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of all concerned. Importantly, the feedback from both staff and students has been extremely positive. We are now in the process of creating a community of ADAs from all faculties with the intention of sharing experiences and developing expertise to better assist teaching academics with DSU registered students."
