Passionate about Music and Science? Then this is the degree for you.
The Bachelor of Music Bachelor of Science is a five-year dual degree program which enables you to complete a major sequence from those available in the Bachelor of Science while studying for a specialist music program that offers intensive pre-professional training in one of four streams: Music Creative Practice, Music Inquiry, Sonic Arts and Music Pedagogy. All streams are supported by a variety of large and small, western and non-western music ensembles as well as extensive opportunities for developing musicianship skills.
The Science degree has been designed for students who seek a 'generalist' degree in which there is a large element of choice. A student can combine courses from two or more Science disciplines, or take courses from outside the Science disciplines. There is also the option to apply for an additional Honours year at the end of the dual degree, subject to a student's academic performance and places available within a School's Honours program.
At the completion of the degree, you will have expertise in at least one of the sub-disciplines of Music, a high level of practical skills in music cognition, analysis and performance, and high level graduate skills in gathering, synthesising, criticising, and presenting ideas and information. A combination of music with other disciplines or degrees will qualify graduates for a diverse array of other occupations in the public and private sector where interdisciplinary skills are sought after.
Applicants must complete an audition to gain entry to the Bachelor of Music program.
Applicants are expected to have reached the level of at least Grade 7 AMEB Performance (or equivalent) and 2 Unit Music course 2 or 3 Unit Extension or Grade 6 AMEB Musicianship (or equivalent).
