Neuroscience has two primary goals: to understand and explain the physical basis of behaviour and consciousness; and to understand and treat diseases of the nervous system such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Neuroscience addresses critical questions such as:

  • How do we sense and perceive the world around us?
  • How do we generate our movements and actions?
  • How is the brain modified as we learn and remember?
  • What molecules do nerves utilise to send their signals?
