Congratulations to Joshua Swift, the recipient of the inaugural Steggles Science Scholarship and Research Fund, valued at $180,000 over three years.
This scholarship, between UNSW Science and Baiada Poultry Pty Ltd was developed out of a longstanding relationship between Dr Tony Pavic from Baiada and Associate Professor Julian Cox. Its view is to fund research beyond the traditional areas of collaboration.
Josh will be investigating the potential of poultry vaccine technology to improve the detection and treatment of cancer. He will be undertaking his studies in the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science under the supervision of Dr Louise Lutze-Mann, with A/Prof Julian Cox (UNSW Science) , Professor Mark Baker (Macquarie University) and Dr Tony Pavic (Baiada).
The scholarship and research fund was formalised through a signing ceremony in August 2013 between the Dean, Professor Merlin Crossley, and Mr Simon Camilleri, Managing Director of Baiada, with most of the project team in attendance.
