At UNSW, you can choose between a number of Science degree programs.
Talented Student Program
The top students enrolled in Science programs are invited by the Dean to participate in the Talented Student Program (TSP). Students participate in this program on a year by year basis. To be eligible for selection, first year students must have obtained a UAI of 99.00 (other relevant criteria such as Olympiad participation will be considered). After first year students will need a WAM of 85 (other criteria may also apply) to be invited to participate. Under this program, you are appointed an Academic mentor who will assist you to accelerate your program and to involve you in special research projects to enhance your academic experience and potential. High-achieving students also have the opportunity for additional flexibility and acceleration of their program. Other benefits from being selected for this program include, the opportunity to participate in student mentoring and school activities, international exchange, and the summer scholarship scheme.
Participation in TSP is by invitation only.
| Bachelor of Science (International) |
Bachelor of Science (International) degree offers flexibility and choice with more than 26 fields of study combined with a study exchange to an overseas partner institution. |
| Advanced Science |
The Advanced Science program is designed to challenge talented students, providing an early window into the thinking and practice of research. You can also complement your specialisation (or major) in science with studies in communication, giving you additional skills for more career opportunities. |
| Advanced Mathematics |
The Advanced Mathematics program is aimed at high achieving students who wish to specialise in mathematics as a basis for the increasing range of quantitative careers in areas such as finance, environmental modelling and research. The degree will allow you to focus on mathematics, providing a comprehensive foundation and training in research. |
| Specialised degrees |
Specialised degrees offer more structured study programs either directed towards professional accreditation by industry or associations, or towards employment in a relevant professional career. These are often 4 or 5 year programs including studies from a range of related disciplines as well as training in important professional skills. The programs may incorporate a research project that may lead to an honours degree. |
| Combined degrees |
Combined degrees enable you to combine a Science major with a major from another faculty (Law, Education, Arts, Business, Engineering, Social Sciences) allowing you greater flexibility to explore individual interests and to provide balanced training. Combining different areas allows for wider use of your Science degree and at the same time provides an extra edge for career choices. Combined degree programs may be completed in as little as four years. |
| Diploma in Science, Engineering & Technology (DipSET) |
This diploma program provides a flexible pathway for students who have a range of gaps in their assumed knowledge and do not meet the standard entry requirements. It provides an opportunity for these students to broaden their scientific skills base, to strengthen their academic literacy, and to develop their critical and analytical thinking. Students who are highly motivated to study science or engineering and who come from a range of backgrounds will find this program attractive. |
| Diploma in Innovation Management |
The Diploma in Innovation Management is unique to UNSW. After completing one year of a science program, high achieving students may apply for entry to the program. |
