Science Advisory Council - Mr Gary Johnston
Gary Johnston (59) is the owner and founder of Jaycar Electronics, a retailer of electronic goods outside of mainstream consumer electronics. There are over 55 company-owned shops across Australia and New Zealand. In addition to Jaycar, Mr. Johnston has industrial and wholesale business interests in electronics which span across 7 countries in Asia, as well as majority equity in an exciting new mechanical water disinfection technology currently being tested by microbiology staff at UNSW.
Mr. Johnston donated a seven figure sum to UNSW several years ago to establish a chair in water management and research. This chair, named after Mr Johnston, operates out of the UNSW annex at Manly Dam in Sydney's north.
He is married to wife Kerry and they have a young son. He has 3 adult children from a previous marriage.
Mr. Johnston lives in Sydney and maintains an active interest in water and other issues concerning the physical environment.
