The Faculty of Science at UNSW is one of Australia's largest and most successful faculties.

Our goal is to educate the next generation of science and scientifically aware graduates, and through our teaching and research add significantly to the world's stock of scientific and technological knowledge and practice.

Research in the Faculty of Science encompasses many areas where cutting edge basic science is providing rapid advances. Staff of the Faculty include world leaders in their fields, forming part of the international research community. Research income exceeds $25m annually, of which approximately half is awarded by the peak national bodies, the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC). The staff have an outstanding record in attracting funding for their research from a wide range of sources, and their high standing worldwide has resulted in a variety of international collaborations, exchanges and visitors.

The Faculty has extensive research interactions with industry sectors such as manufacturing and natural resources, and with government organisations both nationally (CSIRO, EPA, Bureau of Meteorology) and internationally (LANL, NSA, NSF, ONR, DFG). Our outlook is intenational, with major research collaborations underway with partners on every continent, including Antarctica. The Faculty is excellently equipped for research at the forefront in world developments, with access to state-of-the-art facilities. as well, the Faculty maintains field stations, including and ocean-going vessel for studies of tropical and coastal marine resources.
