Currently, we will be opening 30 Student placements from 26 – 30 November 2018.
Applicants will be notified of their application outcome by Friday, 15 June 2018.
Our work experience program aims to give students the opportunity to:
- Gain insight and experience into the faculty’s everyday work, which involves a diverse array of Sciences from our Faculty Schools
- Learn what it's like to be a science communicator
- Explore their career and study interests
Conditions of participation
- You must be a student in Year 10 and enrolled in an Australian secondary school
- Selected participants must be available for the entire program
- You will be required to follow the UNSW Science Code of Conduct, Values and Occupational Health Safety and Environment policies
- Lunch plus travel to and from the UNSW Kensington campus is the responsibility of the student
- Work experience requires you to attend for 'work' at specific times and comply with instructions from your supervisor(s) or host(s)
- The normal working day for work experience is 8.30 am to 4.00 pm, subject to variation. We usually allow 1 hour for lunch.
- Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes (you won’t be allowed into the labs without proper footwear).
Supervision
The work experience students will be supervised at all times other than when on a break. Students will be supervised by a variety of university staff including technical, postgraduate students, academics and science student ambassadors.
Our work experience program aims to give students the opportunity to:
- Gain insight and experience into the faculty’s everyday work, which involves a diverse array of Sciences with potential experience in Biomolecular & Biotechnology Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics, Chemistry and Physics.
- Gain experience working with one of our industry partners eg The Australian Museum, ANSTO, The Royal Botanic Gardens etc
- Learn what it's like to be a science communicator
- Explore their career and study interests
