Entrepreneurs in Science Program

The Diploma in Innovation Management

The Diploma in Innovation Management is directed at empowering UNSW science graduates with the entrepreneurship skills and education required to recognise, evaluate, develop, finance and exploit commercial opportunities arising from research discoveries. Graduates equipped with these skills will be more competitive for employment prospects, whether they be in academic or industry based research, administration or management.

Course material covers areas such as business principles, business planning for start-ups, fundamental accounting, intellectual property management, project management, regulation and administration, research and business funding and valuation and assessment of high technology businesses. Students acquire skills in communication, teamwork, networking and leadership all of which are essential for professional career paths. At the completion of the coursework components of the diploma, students undertake work placements in organisations involved in the commercialisation of technology.

The program content is the equivalent of 1.5 sessions of study, but has been designed so that it can be completed by most students during the same timeframe as their primary science degree. Application for entry to the Diploma program is open to science students commencing their second year of a sciencebased degree or combined science degree.

For more information visit the UNSW Entrepreneurs in Science web site.

Entry to this program is by internal application after one year of study at UNSW.
