The Diploma in Innovation Management is directed at empowering UNSW science graduates with the entrepreneurships skills and education required to recognise, evaluate, develop, finance and exploit commercial opportunities arising from research discoveries. Graduates equipped with these skills will be more competitive for employment prospects, whether they are in academic or industry based research, administration or management. Course material covers areas such as business principles, business planning for start-ups, fundamental accounting, intellectual property management, project management, regulation and administration, research and business funding and valuation and assessment of high-technology businesses. Students acquire skills in communication, teamwork, networking and leadership all of which are essential for professional career paths. At the completion of the coursework components of the diploma, students undertake work placements in organisations involved in the commercialisation of technology. The program content is the equivalent of 1.5 sessions of study, but has been designed so that it can be completed by most students during the same time frame as their primary science degree. Application for entry to the diploma program is open to science students commencing their second year of a science-based degree or combined science degree. |
